What Is Samhain?

Samhain marks the ancient Celtic festival at the end of the harvest, when the veil between this world and the unseen is at its thinnest. It is the time when winter takes hold, spirits walk freely under the frost, and the old year dies so a new one can be born in the dark.

The Brew

I don’t do mass-produced. To make a set of runes that actually speaks, you need the right ingredients. For the Samhain set, I had to stand out on the hills at twilight right as the harvest fires flickered out against the coming cold:

• The Sunset (Orange): The fiery, fading orange of the last autumn sun sinking below the horizon, capturing that final flash of autumn heat before the long dark sets in.

• The Black: Heavy, chilling shadow pulled straight from the midnight woods where the boundary between worlds blurs into nothing.

• The Anchor (Black): Deep, smoke-cured soot harvested from the end-of-harvest bonfire. I ground it down to a fine powder to outline the old ᚠᚢᚦᚨᚱᚲ (Futhark) symbols, locking all that threshold magic safely inside the resin.
