Quality is hard. There’s a reason so many of our culture’s products are made cheaply these days. Quality takes time. A LOT of time. Sometimes the craftsman will spend days, weeks, months even agonizing over every inch of his piece. Touching every part thousands of times. Tweaking, reshaping, smoothing, it all takes time.
Which is why craftsmen can’t compete with big box, factory-made prices. Factories can crank things out at lightning speed, same size and shape for everyone. Cheap materials, quick labor, minimal investment of time. Low, low prices. Breaks in three weeks? Time to buy a new one = more money in their pocket. It’s a never ending cycle.
Give someone the honor of spending time making a quality product for you. Patiently let them create a masterpiece. Invest in a craftsman.
Allow a craft to stay alive and not lost to the cheap world of mass production. Preserve culture.
