What Is Pryftan?

Named after a notoriously short-tempered, gold-hoarding, fire-breathing menace who takes massive offense to people stealing a single chalice from his mountain pile, Pryftan represents peak annoyance when someone wakes you up from a nap. It is the ultimate patron saint of waking up cranky, protecting your stuff, and reminding everyone that property damage is a valid emotional response.

The Brew

I don’t do mass-produced. To make a set of runes that actually speaks, you need the right ingredients. For the Pryftan set, I had to sneak into a subterranean hoard, dodge a literal furnace of bad attitude, and grab what I needed before becoming a crisp:

• The Crimson (Red): Molten, high-heat fury squeezed straight from the glowing underbelly of a scale-covered creature throwing a multi-century temper tantrum.

• The Black: Heavy, charred soot scraped off the walls of a mountain cavern after someone forgot to mind their manners around an apex predator.

• The Anchor (Gold): Pure, gleaming gold flakes hammered down fine—salvaged straight from a pile of stolen loot sitting right on top of a soft spot in the armor. I used them to outline the old ᚠᚢᚦᚨᚱᚲ (Futhark) symbols, locking all that grumpy, treasure-hoarding energy safely inside the resin.
