This blade was started by a blacksmith between 1860 and 1890 who forged the original wrought iron anchor chain by hand—no power tools, just muscle and a coal fire.
I took that chain and gave it new life, carrying on his work. It’s now a San Mai, with that 160-year-old iron jacketing a modern, 80CrV2 high-carbon core.
The etch on the blade tells the story: the wild, chaotic grain of the iron gives the knife its name, “Stormy Skies,” while the dark line of the 80CrV2 is the razor-sharp edge of today.
Paired with a dark Wenge wood handle, this is the wild grain of the past meeting the sharp, clean line of the present. A modern tool that carries on tradition.
