Fafnir’s ward

$500.00

In the sagas, the Aegishjalmur (or “Helm of Awe”) was more than just a symbol; it was a physical object of terrifying power worn by the dragon Fafnir to guard his treasure. It was said to make the wearer invincible, casting a spell of fear and confusion over any enemy who dared approach.

This blade was forged with that same spirit of protection and dominance. The steel itself is a 220-layer ladder pattern Damascus—a chaotic, beautiful mix of 1084 and 15N20 steels that mimics the swirling mists of the Norse realms. Like the mythical helm, this knife is deceptive: despite the visual weight of the intricate steel and the ornate, Celtic-engraved bronze guard, the blade is incredibly light. It moves with a speed that belies its strength, feeling like a natural extension of the hand.

The handle, crafted by Midknight Arts, evokes the “smokey blue” atmosphere of the dragon’s lair, made from stabilized redwood and aluminum honeycomb suspended in resin. To seal the intention of the blade, the Aegishjalmur symbol itself is set directly into the butt of the handle—a permanent mark of protection for whoever wields it.
